My partner who is Japanese has been studying with Akemi Sensei for over 2 years. Before, whenever I heard her on the phone with her grandmother there was a lot of chotto matte (ちょっと待って) please wait, just a minute, and a lot of Google Translates in between. Akemi-sensei has been teaching my son for years. First it was in person weekly when he was a young toddler. Then we lost touch following a move. As the world has moved more to online learning, we sought her back out as an instructor now that he is a teen still wanting to improve his Japanese. She focuses on things other language programs were lacking - she emphasizes proper native pronunciation, conversation skills, and writing. My son has improved more in a month one on one with her than in any group school classes. She also has a fantastic and positive attitude. Highly recommend her.

She breaks down each lesson (gives you the history / cultural significance behind your lessons, which is stellar) , gives you most of the material you need and points you where you need to go to buy the rest (she also provides tapped content to reinforce the prior lesson). Akemi- Sensei goes above and beyond to make sure you understand and enjoy your lessons! (she eve gave us tips on how to teach our child - even better to reinforce our own learning!) We made a good investment when we chose Akemi- Sensei.

Akemi responded immediately to our request and was very helpful in setting up our lesson times . After our time was fixed , we had to change it again due to some issues . Again , Akemi was very accommodating. She always gives me a brief summary of how my child is progressing with the lessons . I’ve been taking lessons with Akemi sensei for 4 months now and have learned a lot. I can understand some parts of the shows I watch, read hiragana, have short conversations and structure some sentences! Time flies with sensei because she’s a wonderful, kind, beautiful, knowledgeable person and teacher! She truly believes in you and you learn a lot of great material in just one hour. I couldn’t recommend Akemi sensei enough…she has been tremendous. I came into Japanese lessons with zero knowledge of the language or culture, and in the little over two months I’ve had lessons, I felt like I’ve learned 6 months worth. Akemi was Japanese tutor as I prepared for the Monbukagakusho scholarship exams. I had tried other tutors but Akemi had by far the most structured and professional approach to teaching me the language.
