About Yong Kiat
I am a dedicated Computer Science and Software Engineering tutor with professional industry experience, specializing in programming fundamentals and technical interview preparation. I take a structured, clear, and student-focused approach to teaching, helping learners build strong foundations, think logically, and gain confidence in solving technical problems. Teaching Philosophy & Approach My teaching is grounded in clarity, structure, and real understanding. I focus on helping students understand how and why solutions work, rather than relying on memorization. Lessons are interactive and tailored to each student’s level and goals. I break down complex concepts into simple, intuitive explanations, reinforce learning through guided practice, and gradually introduce more challenging problems as confidence grows. I place strong emphasis on clear communication, clean coding practices, and structured problem-solving—key skills required in technical interviews and real-world software engineering.

My tutoring approach is concept-first, practice-driven:
I focus on explaining why things work before jumping into code.
Concepts are broken down into simple mental models, real-world analogies, and step-by-step reasoning.
Lessons are interactive, with live coding, guided problem-solving, and discussion rather than passive lecturing.
I adapt the pace and difficulty based on the student’s current level and learning style.
Interview prep includes thinking out loud, structuring answers clearly, and writing clean, readable code.
Techniques I Use
Whiteboard-style explanations for data structures and algorithms
Guided walkthroughs of coding problems (easy → medium → hard)
Debugging sessions to improve logical thinking
Mock interview questions with feedback on communication and approach
Best practices for writing maintainable, interview-ready code
