About Tomo
I was born in Japan and graduated from a public high school in Kanagawa Prefecture. I studied Film and Chinese at the University of Victoria in Wellington, New Zealand. Through this experience, I was blessed with both local and international friends, and I’ve taught Japanese both casually and professionally. I also worked at a translation company in Japan, where I had the privilege of working with people from many different countries. There, I helped explain and refine their Japanese, which deepened my passion for language and communication. All these experiences have made me confident — and excited — to teach and enjoy the Japanese language with learners of all levels. I know how challenging learning a new language can be, how nervous you might feel about making mistakes, and how rewarding it is to express yourself better than yesterday. Perfect! Tomo-san is a brilliant teacher. Lessons with him have accelerated my Japanese language progress immensely. He is highly relatable and delivers comprehensible lessons with clear output goals. A great example of this is how he remembers topics that I am interested in and weaves them into the lessons. This makes the sessions really fun and helps lock in the learning. I highly recommend working with Tomo-san to achieve your Japanese language goals.

Tomo was absolutely amazing! I learned Japanese from him for 2 years, and I got to say, I wouldn't know any of the Japanese I know now if it wasn't for his patience, his inventive, pedagogical approach, and infectious energy.
