About Petal
I have a BSc. Chemistry and a Post Graduate Diploma in Science Education from the University of Guyana. In addition, I have a Master of Science degree in Education for Sustainability from London South Bank University. As a chemist and worked in the Sugar Industry, Guyana in several senior management posts prior to advancing my career in Science/STEM education. As a chemistry teacher at St. Stanislaus College from 2006-2008, I recorded 100 % passes at the CSEC examinations. Many of my past students pursued their first degrees in chemistry. I taught chemistry at the Guyana School of Agriculture. As Guyana's National Science Coordinator, I designed and facilitated chemistry courses for Secondary School Science teachers in Guyana. In 2019 Guyana recorded significant improvements in chemistry passes at the CSEC examinations ((concealed information) I recently left this post to relocate to New York as a permanent US resident.

I use the scientific method through a constructivist approach which is demonstrated in several instructional designs for effective science lesson delivery - Inquiry Based Science Education which is modeled after the UNESCO Ark of Inquiry Project, the 5 E model along with more recent models proposed the next generations science standards which bridges practical applications with theory. I received specialist training in France (La main a la pate ) and Japan for Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE). Through my training in Education for Sustainability, I am skilled to link lessons to concepts of sustainability. To link lessons, I use approaches such as KWL charts etc. For online environments supporting videos and forum discussions support learning.
