About Emmaline
I’m a tutor of academic writing, creative writing, literature, and history with a decade of online tutoring experience.
I have a Master’s in English & American Literature from New York University, which qualifies me to teach English literature to both high school students and undergraduate students.
I also have a Master’s in Social Studies Education from Columbia Teachers College, qualifying me to teach history and other social studies subjects to high school students.
I received my Bachelor’s in History and Comparative Literature & Society from Columbia University, which has informed my background in teaching both history and literature.
I am currently working towards a Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from The New School, which will qualify me to teach creative writing at the high school and undergraduate levels.
I am passionate about history, literature, and all humanities and social studies subjects. I am also a creative writer and love to edit and give feedback on other writers' work.
I received departmental honors in both the History and Comparative Literature & Society departments at Columbia. My history senior thesis won the Charles A. Beard Prize as well as the George Watt Prize.
I have also received creative writing awards through National YoungArts Foundation and the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. My short stories and novels have placed as finalists in contests including the Gival Press Short Story Award, Purple Ink Press' Cat's Eye Chapbook Contest, and the James Jones First Novel Fellowship.
I have published an academic journal article in the literary studies journal American Literary Realism and presented my literary research at the academic conference C19.
I have experience teaching in both college literature classes and high school history classes. In both settings, I received overwhelmingly positive evaluations from students.

In my lessons, students can expect to come to me with whatever they need help with in their English literature, history, social studies, or creative writing classes. I work with both high school and undergraduate students to improve writing, reading, and critical thinking skills for humanities subjects. I also work with students ranging from high school to adult learners who are interested in getting feedback on their creative writing to submit to literary journals or creative writing contests or simply to improve as a writer.
I use a highly personalized approach which means that I don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach to lessons—instead, you tell me what you need as a learner and we will work on that together in sessions.
