About Mercey
I am a violin tutor with over 8 years of teaching experience and a Diploma in Classical Violin. My training in classical music gives me a strong foundation, but my true passion lies in exploring crossover styles. I love blending the violin with jazz, rock, hip-hop strings, and world music. These genres open up creative possibilities and show students how versatile the violin can truly be. I use improvisation, looping pedals, and performance techniques to make lessons fresh and exciting. In my teaching, I encourage students to write their own solos and explore original ideas. I also guide them in adapting popular songs, so they can play the music they already love in their own style. Along the way, we experiment with tone, texture, and sound effects to expand what the violin can express. My lessons combine technical growth with artistic freedom. I believe students learn best when they are inspired, so I balance structure with creativity in every session. Whether you are starting out or looking to push your playing in new directions, I provide the tools and support to help you succeed. The violin is more than just a classical instrument—it is a voice for every style of music. My violin teaching approach is built on helping students grow with both skill and confidence. I believe that every player can find their own voice on the instrument when given the right guidance and encouragement. I start with strong foundations, focusing on posture, bowing, and finger placement. These basics create the technique needed to play comfortably and beautifully. Alongside this, I introduce sight reading and music theory to build a deeper understanding of how music works. Vibrato development is another key part of my lessons, taught step by step so it feels natural and expressive. I also guide students through rhythm practice and ear training, which are essential for playing with accuracy and musicality. As students progress, I expand their repertoire to include both classical pieces and contemporary styles. This allows them to explore different sounds and discover what excites them most. Whether preparing for a performance, building stage confidence, or simply enjoying the instrument, I provide the tools to excel. I pay special attention to those who want to accompany their singing or play music that connects with wider audiences. For these learners, I focus on expression, style adaptation, and performance presence so their playing feels authentic and engaging. Every lesson is interactive, supportive, and tailored to each student’s goals. My aim is not only to teach technique but also to inspire passion for the violin. With dedication and my guidance, students develop both the skills and joy needed to truly enjoy making music.
