About Uma
In my role as a chess instructor, I bring over a decade of experience as a seasoned Chess Grandmaster, having competed at the highest levels of the game globally. My journey in chess began at a young age, fueled by a passion for the intricacies and challenges of the game. Over the years, I have honed my skills through rigorous training, competition, and continuous learning, achieving numerous accolades and titles along the way.
As an instructor, I am deeply committed to sharing my knowledge and expertise with students of all ages and skill levels. Whether teaching beginners or advanced players, my approach is rooted in patience, encouragement, and a genuine desire to see my students succeed. I strive to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel empowered to explore their potential and push the boundaries of their capabilities.
My teaching philosophy is centered around fostering a holistic understanding of chess, encompassing not only the technical aspects of the game but also the strategic thinking, problem-solving, and sportsmanship skills that are essential for success both on and off the board. Through personalized instruction, engaging lessons, and hands-on learning activities, I aim to inspire a lifelong love of chess and equip my students with the tools they need to excel in the game and beyond.

In my lessons, I strive to create an engaging and dynamic learning environment where students can immerse themselves in the world of chess while honing their skills and strategic thinking abilities. Whether teaching beginners or advanced players, I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs and goals of each student. For beginners, I focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game, including basic rules, piece movements, and simple strategies. As students progress, I introduce more advanced concepts such as tactics, openings, middlegame plans, and endgame techniques.
I believe in a hands-on approach to learning, where students actively participate in games, puzzles, and interactive exercises to reinforce their understanding of key concepts. By analyzing games, both classic and contemporary, students gain insights into the thought processes of top players and learn how to apply these strategies to their own games. Additionally, I provide personalized feedback and guidance to help students identify areas for improvement and develop their own unique playing style.
Beyond teaching the technical aspects of chess, I also emphasize the importance of sportsmanship, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Through friendly competition and collaborative learning, students develop resilience, patience, and a growth mindset that extends beyond the chessboard.
