About Elliot
I have a BA (Summa Cum Laude) from University of Baltimore (2015), double majoring in English literature and creative writing. I ran writing workshops during my undergraduate years and got my own work published in the University’s nationally-acclaimed literary magazine. I have an MA/MPP (Master in Public Policy) from George Washington University (2020), wherein I focused on social policy and philosophy. I was a teaching assistant who worked closely with students in their writing assignments and exam prep across disciplines, gaining a reputation amongst students and within my department as a witty and charismatic tutor who took students’ work and needs as seriously as my own studies. I have over five years of professional experience as a contract tutor in a number of topics, working with students from early middle school up to college seniors. I work with adults as well, and have several editing and revision credits, including in a major internationally-acclaimed book by author and human rights activist Medea Benjamin. I worked for nine years — throughout graduate school and in tandem with tutoring and editorial work — as a community organizer, working with folks from every demographic and age group, doing campus organizing with HBCU activist groups as well as political organizing for paid sick leave and progressive political candidates, in dialogue with thousands of people across the city of Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia — primarily in the most marginalized and disadvantaged communities. I am also an artist, particularly in literature and performance, and occasional stand-up comedian. (So, I’m funny, or so I’m told — and I make the tutoring experience as fun and as fulfilling as possible.)

I work in-depth with the student and their assignments, investing time into the student’s success in and outside of sessions. I want to lighten the load of stress, and help students gain and hone their confidence, especially by working through tried and true methods and habits. Ultimately, my tutoring sessions are about you. I provide immediate help in your schoolwork and assignments, and also (especially for high school and early college students) will help students map out a course of action based on their interests and strengths.
