About Adinda
My name is Adinda van Kranendonk, I am 26 years old and I graduated as an anthropologist in Amsterdam. Last February I submitted my film Uncertain Journey (2018, 20 min) and thesis for the master in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at the UvA. In recent years I have found out more and more why this field makes me so enthusiastic. The differences between people, by origin, religion and culture, have always had my interest. Not only do I want to understand people from their own complex reality, I also want to use this knowledge to build bridges between different people and cultures. I also hope to inspire the breaking of mental and physical walls between individuals and groups. Two projects that resulted from this motivation are: "Meet Palestine" and the curriculum "The Perspective of the Spectacles". With Meet Palestine we bring small groups into contact with people in Israel and Palestine. Our experience is that these trips and workshops stimulate critical thinking, change perspectives and activate people. We notice that our presence is also a positive stimulus for our Israeli and Palestinian friends. The Palestinians and Israelis live literally side by side but almost never speak to each other. People who live apart from each other in extreme circumstances lose all nuance and especially empathy for each other. It is important to always approach people on a personal level. The foundation was born from this idea. This is the story we want to tell, among other things by traveling to this region and offering workshops in secondary schools. We want to inspire people to look at situations differently and to approach problems on a human level. The curriculum deals with the fact that society consists of people. This sounds very trivial, but often enough is talk about 'the other' as another person with incomprehensible or inexplicable qualities. I see this as one of the most important insights to come into contact with. That is why, together with a friend, I set up the teaching program for secondary schools on this topic. The lessons are about the realization that we all have our own background, with an upbringing, learned norms and values, and experiences. From this background everyone experiences his or her own behavior as logical and that of the other as illogical, wrong or disturbed. It is best to understand the way of thinking of the 'other', but sometimes this does not work. The trick is to realize that this 'other' only sees it differently from you. The goal is to become actively aware of our own perspective on the world and the color of our thinking, and to be open to other perspectives. We call this 'the perspective of the glasses'. We can not change glasses, but we are aware of the differences between glasses.

In addition to the above substantive goal, I have a methodical ideal. It is important that the lessons have an interactive character. I would like to offer the students the subjects in a playful and accessible way, so that they are stimulated not only to sit and listen, but to get up and participate. Through discussions, drama, physical assignments, dilemmas to solve and conclusions that raise more questions than answers, I hope to stimulate pupils to ask critical questions and a curious, open view.
