About Jonathan
I absolutely love playing music. For me, playing music has always been a source of joy and rejuvenation. And it is my belief that engaging with music is one of the core human experiences across the world. Whether it is learning songs on guitar in my bedroom or playing bass on stage with a group, music is something I live and breathe.
My interests are wide-ranging and I can find something that resonates across every genre. One of the most important lessons in becoming a musician is how to hear the music in anything--the rhythm, the melody, the harmony, the tone. This is the path that I followed in developing my ear and I would love to share that with you too.
With nearly two decades of experience, I bring knowledge, skills, and perspective that can help enable your own musical journey. I also have a background in psychology and experience teachings individuals with learning disabilities. As I believe music is for everyone, I am happy to teach anyone excited to learn--regardless of ability. For players with more experience I also offer more in depth lessons diving into more advanced topics to get you to a place you can feel comfortable and confident playing the music you want to create.

Do you want to make some beautiful noise?
I offer a patient approach focused on aiding my students get to place they can feel comfortable playing inside. My belief is that most people are innately capable of playing music at a basic level, especially once they've developed an ear for listening to music (which most people do!). My aim then is to identify the potential that already exists and build off of that. And once students advance to a basic level, my focus shifts to the nuances of playing increasingly challenging material at higher levels.
My lessons are ideally suited for beginners to intermediate-level students of all ages. I can teach for most popular genres such as rock, metal, pop, and funk. Potential topics to cover include the mechanics of playing an instrument, music theory, song selections to learn, improvisation and writing, as well as developing a personal style.
I have been playing for almost two decades and have many lessons that I either absorbed from my own teachers or wish had been imparted on me earlier. Lesson length is usually 30, 45, or 60 minutes. I also offer group lessons for 60 or 90 minutes.
