About Henry
For me, good tutoring is ultimately about helping students make real progress — in their understanding, confidence, ability to solve problems independently, and of course, their results. Achieving this consistently requires experience, effective teaching methods, and a genuine sense of responsibility for each student's progress.
With 1,500+ hours of tutoring experience, I have worked with students from a wide range of schools, including some of Victoria's leading private schools, selective schools and other secondary schools. Some students come to me already performing strongly and want to take their results to the next level; others are struggling to keep up, while some have fallen significantly behind and need to rebuild. As long as a student is willing to put in the effort, I have experience working with students in each of these situations and helping them move forward.
My lessons are highly interactive. In a typical 1-to-1 lesson, students are asked a question approximately every 20–30 seconds, so they are constantly thinking rather than passively listening. I pay close attention to every step that contributes to better results and provide support beyond lesson explanations, practice and homework. When useful, I also provide online training programs, interactive exercises and learning games to strengthen specific skills, as well as guidance on how to use AI appropriately and effectively as a learning tool.
I take responsibility for each student's learning seriously. I keep an individual learning record for every student, including their school assessment and exam schedule, progress and areas requiring attention. After each lesson, students receive lesson feedback highlighting what was important, what needs further practice and what to focus on next. Before assessments, I help students plan their revision carefully and, where necessary, adjust tutoring sessions around upcoming SACs, tests and exams.
The results are what matter most. I have seen many significant improvements within one or two terms of tutoring — from students moving from failing assessments to achieving close to full marks, to students who were considering dropping a subject progressing to above-average results, as well as already strong students continuing to push their performance higher.
I set a standard for my own tutoring. When a student comes to me, my personal benchmark is to provide a level of teaching, preparation and support that I would expect to place among the top 5% of tutoring available to them.

1. WHAT TUTORING DO YOU OFFER FOR DIFFERENT YEAR LEVELS?
YEAR 9 – ADVANCED MATHS / VCE PREPARATION/ METHODS ACCELERATION READINESS PREP
For capable Year 9 students looking for greater challenge or considering an accelerated VCE pathway. Lessons focus on strengthening advanced Year 9/10A foundations, algebra, functions and problem-solving skills to prepare for future VCE Mathematics.
YEAR 10 – VCE METHODS & SPECIALIST MATHS PREPARATION
For students planning to study Mathematical Methods or Specialist Maths in Year 11, including students entering accelerated Methods. Lessons strengthen the essential foundations required for VCE and can also introduce selected Year 11 concepts ahead of school.
YEAR 11 – METHODS, SPECIALIST MATHS & GENERAL MATHS
Support can range from catching up to getting ahead. Students may need to rebuild difficult topics, strengthen connections between chapters, prepare for upcoming assessments, or preview future content to stay ahead of their school program.
YEAR 12 – METHODS, SPECIALIST MATHS & GENERAL MATHS
Lessons become increasingly focused on SAC and VCE examination performance. This includes identifying weaknesses, revising key concepts, practising VCE-style questions and past exams, improving exam technique, and developing strategies to maximise available marks.

2. WHAT LESSON OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
Students can choose from:
• Online 1-to-1 tutoring – personalised lessons tailored to the student's school progress, strengths, weaknesses and goals.
• Face-to-face 1-to-1 tutoring – available in Rowville and selected nearby areas, subject to availability.
• Online small-group programs – structured courses for students at a similar year level and stage of learning, with intentionally limited group sizes.
In addition to regular weekly tutoring, I also offer short-term SAC/exam preparation, school holiday programs and targeted revision courses.

3. HOW DO NEW STUDENTS GET STARTED?
I normally begin with a complimentary 30-minute diagnostic trial lesson.
The purpose of the trial is not simply to give the student a sample lesson. It allows me to understand their current level, identify strengths and weaknesses, discuss their goals and recommend an appropriate tutoring approach.
After the trial, students can begin regular tutoring straight away. If you are still unsure about making a longer-term commitment, the first 2–3 lessons can be PAYG, giving both the student and parents enough time to decide whether the tutoring is the right fit.
There is no requirement to commit to long-term weekly tutoring. Students are also welcome to join for short-term exam preparation, SAC support, catch-up programs or holiday courses when appropriate.

4. WHAT SUPPORT IS PROVIDED DURING AND BETWEEN LESSONS?
Lessons are highly interactive and adapted to the individual student. Depending on their needs, support may include concept explanations, schoolwork, targeted practice, homework, personalised handouts, VCAA-style questions, SAC preparation and exam strategies.
Students can also send me questions between lessons when they are genuinely stuck. Where useful, I may provide additional online training exercises, learning tools or other resources to strengthen specific skills.
For regular students, I monitor school assessments and upcoming exams so that tutoring can be adjusted around important assessment periods.

5. PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Most regular lessons are 1-1.5 hours, although 2 hours sessions can be arranged depending on the student's needs.
For most VCE students, 1 to 2 lessons per week is a good starting point. Additional sessions can be arranged before SACs and exams or during school holidays where appropriate.
Face-to-face lessons are available around Rowville and selected nearby Knox and Monash suburbs, generally within a reasonable travelling distance.
Rescheduling is normally no problem with at least 24 hours' notice. Lessons cancelled within 24 hours may incur a 50% cancellation fee in line with platform policy.
Review

Perfect! Henry is very professional and friendly
I would highly recommend him- Tamara is a very positive, enthusiastic and engaging student. She has a clear understanding of her current progress in Mathematical Methods and a good sense of what she wants to achieve. From our lessons so far, I can see that she has a solid mathematical foundation, learns quickly and responds very well to new explanations.Henry's response :
The main challenge she is currently facing is quite common among Year 11 Methods students — the transition to the greater difficulty and pace of VCE Methods. Some gaps from earlier topics have gradually accumulated and are now starting to affect her understanding of more advanced content. Moving forward, our priority will be to support her with her current school topics, while also using available time to revisit and strengthen some of the earlier foundations. With this approach, I believe she can make very good progress.
Perfect! I’ve had a great experience with Henry as a tutor to better understand my Year 12 Maths Methods. He is extremely patient, knowledgeable and explains concepts in ways that’s easy to understand. He has helped build my confidence and made difficult topics manageable. I highly recommend to anyone wanting extra support in maths or looking for exam techniques and strategies. Thanks Henry!
- Ruby has a strong foundation. She is a quick learner, thinks logically, and responds very well when discussing mathematical ideas.Henry's response :
Based on these papers, I believe Ruby’s actual ability is likely higher than her current self-assessment. In many questions, she had already completed 70–80% of the required thinking. Unfortunately, Methods is often a subject where the final 20% is what earns most of the marks.
Overall, I don't think Ruby's main issue is a lack of understanding of the content itself. Her foundation is stronger than her SAC result suggests, and she generally understands individual topics quite well.
The main challenge is developing a stronger system for recognising common Methods question types and connecting multiple concepts together, particularly in transformations, graph interpretation and application-style questions.
Perfect! Henry is incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and explains concepts in a way that is easy for my son to understand. He teaches new ways to look and answer questions and provides tricks to overcome hard math equations. The lessons are well organised and tailored to suit my son's level and learning needs.
My son has found these lessons with Henry very helpful and it has given him more confidence in his VCE maths.- Ethan demonstrates a strong and thoughtful approach to learning, and his fundamentals are already quite solid.Henry's response :
With further consolidation of more conceptually challenging areas such as transformations, he has the potential to perform at a high level.
Perfect! Henry has been great at identifying gaps in my son’s understanding of Maths Methods and helping him learn how to approach solving problems more effectively. He explains concepts clearly, is very supportive and encouraging, and keeps me updated regularly on Ari’s progress and areas that need improvement.
What I really appreciate is that Henry genuinely cares about helping students build confidence, not just get through the work. His communication has been excellent, and he has been flexible and proactive in helping Ari prepare for upcoming tests.
I’d highly recommend Henry to any student needing support with maths, especially those who need help rebuilding confidence and strengthening foundational skills.- Ari has good learning attitude and communication skills. He is smart and he can find the answer if he understand the concept very clearly. He does show potential in mathematics. Overall, I’d say Ari is still developing confidence and consistency with some of the foundational concepts.Henry's response :
Perfect! Henry has been really helpful in improving my understanding of maths. He explains difficult concepts clearly and break problems down step by step, which makes them much easier to follow. I especially like how patient Henry is and how he goes over questions until I fully understand them
- StrengthsHenry's response :
Erica has a very positive attitude towards learning. She is attentive in class, a quick learner, and has a strong memory for key concepts.
Areas for Improvement
Some of the earlier foundational concepts in Mathematical Methods could be strengthened further. With consistent revision and practice, this will help her approach more complex questions with greater confidence.

Henry’s knowledge and preparation for SACs and exams is most supportive for his students. Thank you Henry for a positive and productive partnership. My daughter is in Year 12 and has been learning both VCE Methods and Specialist Maths with Henry.
Before she started, she found some of the harder topics confusing. After learning with Henry for a while, I can really see the difference. She understands the concepts much better now.
What my daughter really like is that Henry doesn't just teach one chapter at a time. He often connects different topics together, which has really helped her understand how everything fits together. I think this maybe the reason to make a big difference, especially when preparing for SACs and exams.
Henry also helped her work out what she needed to focus on and gave her a clear study plan. Instead of just doing lots of questions, she now knows what to practise and why.
She is much more confident now, and I can see her approaching maths in a much more positive way. We're very happy with her progress and would definitely recommend Henry to other VCE Maths students.Great maths tutor. Very clear explanations and very patient with students.
