About Valeri
Professional Bio:
Valeri Speights is a versatile violinist, dedicated instructor, and innovator with a passion for helping musicians rekindle their joy in practice and performance.
Valeri has performed with various ensembles, including the Woodlands Symphony, Legacy Baroque, and the Conroe Symphony. Her teaching expertise has benefited students through roles at the Woodlands Chamberfest, the Huntsville Youth Orchestra, and other notable programs. Additionally, she has conducted for the Conroe Youth Symphony, bringing her insightful approach to young musicians.
Valeri has also trained at notable institutions such as the Interlochen Center for the Arts, the Dylana Jenson Workshop, the MasterWorks Festival, and the Saarburg International Chamber Music Festival. She also studied baroque violin with Zachary Carrettin through Musica Montin, a program hosted by the Boulder Bach Festival.
Beyond her work as a performer and educator, Valeri has contributed to the classical music world in various capacities, from personnel management and public relations to board leadership and administrative support. She also served as an instrument sales representative, bringing her in-depth knowledge to musicians seeking the perfect instrument. Valeri earned her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Sam Houston State University, where she studied with Dr. Javier Pinell and Dr. Naomi Gjevre.

I believe that learning how to play the violin is about more than hammering away countless hours of practice. The well-rounded musician of today absolutely must have a basic understanding of sustainable technique, music history, and music literacy as far as these can be applied to the player’s personal goals. As they practice and apply what they’ve learned in their lessons, each week my students are becoming stronger, more independent players. In this way, their daily practice and weekly lesson help them blossom into musicians with a lifelong love of playing the violin, and each new page of music presents a new adventure to take up.
No matter what, I seek to meet my students where they are and set them up for success. I do this through:
-strengthening awareness of the violin & bow
-educating about both shoulder rest and non-shoulder rest techniques
-cultivating better intonation
-helping students tap into the natural resonance of the instrument
-exploring different bow holds
-if needed, use the lesson time to provide a guided practice session
