About Jonathan
I am a passionate and dedicated English teacher who has been working in education since graduating with a B.Ed (English & French) from the University of Malta in 2006. Over the years, I have taught in state schools as well as other educational institutions, working with students of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
What I value most in teaching is helping students grow in confidence and realise that English is not something to be feared, but understood and mastered with the right guidance. I have supported learners at every level, from those who struggle with basic literacy to those aiming for high achievement at O Level and A Level.
I love how the English language is able to open so many doors for its speakers. As an international language, it connects people across cultures and continues to adapt to the ever-changing lives we lead. At the same time, English is home to a vast body of outstanding literature, which I see not just as academic study, but as an art form that I truly enjoy and value.
I strongly believe in the transformative power of education. As Nelson Mandela famously said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This belief guides my approach in every lesson I deliver.
I take pride in being patient, supportive, and attentive to each student’s needs. I believe that every learner is capable of improvement, and I work closely with my students to help them reach their full potential while developing a genuine appreciation for language and literature.

My lessons are structured, engaging, and tailored to the individual needs of each student. As a 2006 University of Malta B.Ed (English & French) graduate with almost 20 years of experience teaching in state schools and other institutions, I bring both academic expertise and practical classroom insight to my tutoring.
I have worked with a wide range of learners, from CCP students who reach secondary school with literacy difficulties, to students preparing for English O Level and A Level examinations, as well as adult learners. This breadth of experience allows me to adapt my teaching approach to suit different ages, abilities, and learning styles.
I specialise in developing key skills such as essay writing, textual analysis, critical thinking, and effective exam technique. I create my own PowerPoints and workbooks in most cases, ensuring that materials are carefully designed to meet each student’s specific needs and learning goals.
Lesson duration is flexible and agreed upon with each student. While some learners prefer one-hour sessions, others opt for longer sessions of up to three hours, particularly when they have demanding schedules and prefer to cover more material in one sitting.
