About Jess

Hi! My name is Jess and I am a student at the University of Leeds pursuing BA Sociology, Social Policy and Crime. I am approachable, dedicated and enthusiastic aiming to create a positive and engaging learning environment to stimulate student growth both personally and academically. With my previous tutoring experience, it is my best interest to offer my knowledge of English through my experience in GCSE and through my discovery module at University currently. My passion for Sociology, ignited in my studies at A level, encouraging me to pursue this interest at University. I utilise this passion and transmit my knowledge, motivations and experiences onto my students, scaffolding important skills for my students such as problem solving, independent learning and a drive for working hard. Most importantly, I aim to make my students love the subject by making it fun to learn rather than just another exam.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to student’s individual preferences and needs. Usually, I structure my lessons with a PowerPoint, which covers all the key content, a dissection of exam questions, model answers and hints and tips on how to achieve top grades. Throughout the presentation, students will be given advice on note-taking to advance their revision. This will be followed by an exam question testing what they have just learnt. However, lessons can be adapted according to the student’s learning styles whether that be introducing quizzes (such as Quizlet), practising exam questions, presenting their ideas through mind maps or other creative methods.
