About Chloe
I was raised as a reader and have always enjoyed creative writing, however I fell out of love with reading when I entered secondary school and only rediscovered my passion during COVID lockdown. I love helping students who are not too enthusiastic about literature find books they connect with and teaching them the tools they need to interpret literature insightfully.
I have been fascinated by Mandarin since I began studying it, largely due to the excellent approach of my first Mandarin teacher, who made class dynamic and high energy. I love discovering and sharing equally fun ways to learn Mandarin and understand Chinese culture.
Outside of my studies, I am very involved with student life at Oxford, especially careers-wise. I am on the committee of Oxford Women in Business and have also been on the committee of the Oxford Finance Society.

Mandarin
I'm a current second-year undergraduate at the University of Oxford reading English and teach English Literature for International Baccalaureate in addition to beginners Mandarin (HSK1-2 or equivalent). My lessons are an hour long each and are conducted online (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet - whatever is easiest for you).
Teaching methodology:
- I believe the key to success with a subject is genuine passion and thus I work with students to identify the areas of each subject that truly interest them
- Every student has unique strengths and ways of learning so I give students a variety of tasks to identify where they shine and what works for them
Experience and Qualifications:
- I received a 7 in my final exam for IB English Literature and I'm predicted a first in my final exams
- I have studied Mandarin for 8 years and lived in China for 5 months on exchange
- I have received several awards and commendations for my work in both subjects
Please note that I am happy to offer advice, mock interviews, and entry test/written work feedback to those wanting to apply to Oxford for English, however I am not a professional coach and can only work in accordance with my own experience in this regard.
