I believe great tutoring goes far beyond fixing one paper or explaining one concept. It should equip students with skills that last long after our sessions end. My approach combines three core principles: personalization, practical strategy, and genuine mentorship.
Every student learns differently, so I begin each relationship by understanding their strengths, challenges, and goals. From there, I blend Socratic questioning (guiding them to discover answers themselves) with direct instruction where needed. We work through real assignments together while I model my thought process—breaking down prompts, organizing ideas, drafting strategically, and revising purposefully. I also teach explicit study systems: active recall, spaced repetition, annotation frameworks, and workflow structures that reduce overwhelm.
A standard 60–90 minute session flows like this: (1) Quick check-in on stress levels and deadlines; (2) Targeted work on current assignments (essay planning, drafting, or revision); (3) Skill-building segment (time-blocking, research strategies, note-taking systems); (4) Wrap-up with a clear action plan and accountability checkpoints. We leave every meeting knowing exactly what to do next—and how to do it efficiently.
I recently graduated from UCLA with straight As across my coursework, so I know exactly what it takes to succeed in competitive academic environments right now. I'm not working from old theories—I've lived the system, cracked the code, and can share what actually works for today's students. More importantly, I care about developing students who are confident, organized, and independent, not just dependent on constant tutoring.
