About Hyunwoo

Hi! I'm currently studying for a Bachelor of International Economics (BIE) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), and I'm passionate about making Economics and Business Management easier to understand.

Having completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma myself, I know firsthand how demanding the program can be. I've experienced the challenges of Internal Assessments, exam preparation, and balancing multiple Higher Level subjects, so I understand what IB students are going through.

My interest in economics goes beyond the classroom. During high school, I served as an Investment Director for my school's Economics and Banking Club, where I developed a deeper interest in financial markets, business strategy, and real-world economic issues.

As a tutor, I'm patient, approachable, and committed to creating a comfortable learning environment where students feel confident asking questions. I believe that no question is too simple and that learning becomes much more enjoyable when difficult concepts finally start to make sense.

I can teach in both English and Korean, and I enjoy helping students build their confidence, strengthen their understanding, and develop effective study habits.

As a Bachelor of International Economics student at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and a former IB Diploma student, I understand firsthand how challenging IB Economics and Business Management can be.

My Teaching Methodology

I believe that truly understanding a concept is much more effective than simply memorizing it. My approach focuses on breaking down complex economic and business theories into simple, real-world examples that students can easily relate to.

I adapt my teaching style to each student's learning pace, strengths, and weaknesses. Rather than just providing answers, I guide students through the reasoning process so they can confidently solve problems independently.

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like

Quick Review (5–10 minutes): Review previous material and identify any areas of difficulty.

Concept Explanation (15–20 minutes): Explain key theories, diagrams, or business frameworks using practical examples.

Exam Practice (20–25 minutes): Work through IB-style questions, focusing on application, analysis, and evaluation.

Feedback & Improvement (5–10 minutes): Review mistakes, discuss improvement strategies, and set goals for the next lesson.

What Makes My Lessons Different?

Having completed the IB Diploma myself, I understand the pressure of balancing coursework, Internal Assessments (IAs), and final examinations.

Now studying International Economics at UBC, I can connect IB-level concepts to university-level economics and real-world applications.

I offer lessons in both English and Korean, making it easier for students to understand difficult concepts in whichever language they feel most comfortable using.
