About Helena

Hi, I’m Helena. I am a postgraduate with a Master’s from Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and a Bachelor’s from University College London. I have extensive experience tutoring English and Norwegian to learners at all levels, both one-to-one and in groups, including IB and GCSE students. I have also worked with Mannings Tutors, supporting students with academic writing, exam preparation, and developing confidence in their language skills.

I take a flexible, student-centred approach, adapting each lesson to your goals, level, and learning style. I focus on practical, real-world skills, helping students improve fluency, structure, and clarity in both written and spoken language. Lessons are supportive, engaging, and tailored so that progress feels achievable and mistakes are part of the learning process.

Whether you are preparing for exams, improving conversational skills, or developing academic writing, I am here to guide you with patience, encouragement, and professionalism.

My approach to tutoring
I take a flexible, student-centred approach, adapting each lesson to your goals, level, and preferred learning style. I focus on building confidence, practical skills, and clarity in both written and spoken English and Norwegian. Lessons combine conversation, exam preparation, vocabulary building, and structured feedback, with grammar and language use explained clearly and accessibly.

Techniques and methodology
I use a mix of interactive discussion, targeted exercises, and academic writing support. For IB and GCSE students, I focus on essay structuring, argument development, and exam-style practice. For language learners, I emphasise fluency, comprehension, and real-life communication skills. Mistakes are treated as learning opportunities to help students progress efficiently.

Typical lesson length
Lessons usually last 60–90 minutes, depending on the student’s goals and focus area, though I am flexible to meet different needs.

Qualifications and experience
I hold a Master’s from Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and a Bachelor’s from University College London. I have extensive tutoring experience, including work with Mannings Tutors, supporting learners one-to-one and in groups, across English, Norwegian, IB, and GCSE subjects. I also assist with academic writing and dissertations.

Who the lessons are for
My lessons are suitable for learners of all ages and levels—from beginners to advanced students. I specialise in IB and GCSE students, but also support adults and native speakers looking to refine their academic or professional language skills.
