About Louisa
Hello! I'm Louisa, a recent graduate from the University of Bristol looking to tutor for GCSE and A level. I'm an outgoing, chatty and versatile tutor with extensive teaching experience. Outside of tutoring, I work as a playwright. This means that day to day, English is a huge part of my life, and I really do like to think that I have a great understanding of the language. Typically, we'll have a trial lesson where we'll go through a past paper together and assess the strengths and weaknesses of a student. This should be super informal, and hopefully a way to get to know each other! From there, we'll set some goals in a timeframe. For example, these could be some goals for a timeframe of 8 lessons: - Create a pool of useful quotes from 'Macbeth'. - Gain a greater understanding of the contexts of 'Macbeth'. - Practise summarising a passage in 3-4 sentences without losing key information. - Improve spelling and use of varied sentence structures in both essays and Creative Writing. - Reduce planning time to 5 minutes or less for exam essays. - Aim to write two fully structured essays in 45 minutes under timed conditions. The way in which we execute these goals will vary, but essentially, I like to work practically and collaboratively, with questions and exercises which we go through together. In the price, I guarantee at least an hour of prep work per lesson. This may include creating powerpoints, making sure I've read a text that the student is studying or preparing tailored past papers. My experience is extensive and varied. As well as tutoring for GCSE online, I have over a year's experience with a UK tutoring company (Explore Learning), and have taught as a TEFL teacher in schools in Thailand and Japan. The training that these more structured teaching environments have given me means that I'm equipped with all sorts of exercises, strategies and tools for learning effectively. In terms of my qualifications, I have an English and Theatre Degree from the University of Bristol, achieved 9s in both English Language and Literature GCSE, and an A* in English A Level. I also have a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).
