About David
Hi there! I have a strong passion for economics, and I'm eager to help students develop a curiosity for the subject and achieve their goals. My own curiosity in Economics has lead me to publish research in a peer-reviewed journal and come 1st in the 2023 New Zealand Economics Competition (out of 2000+ candidates).
I seek to cultivate a supportive and exciting learning environment. As someone who has struggled, bounced back, and succeeded in academics, I understand the importance of having support and mentorship, especially when we feel a bit 'stuck' on a topic or subject. That is why I always take the time to first understand the specific areas of difficulty facing each student, as well as their academic goals and learning styles.

Lesson Structure:
Although my tutoring sessions are adaptable, I usually follow a 3-step method that has proven to be quite effective.
1) Content and theory: the first part of the lesson will usually be spent trying to get an in-depth grasp of the theory. This will include a combination of text-book style theory and real-world applications of the theory.
2) Feynman technique: In order to ensure students have a solid grasp of the theory, I usually get students to explain to me the concept they have just learnt. This allows us to identify and address any gaps in understanding.
3) Targeted exam practice: In addition to understanding the theory, I think its crucial to practice specific strategies/techniques for specific exams. This could include practicing past-paper questions together, learning how to effectively explain RWEs, and understanding the marking criteria. Also happy to give feedback on any homework.
I also offer support for IB Maths AASL and middle school mathematics from all curriculums. Please reach out if you're interested!

David has been very dedicated towards helping me with economics. What I found incredible was that he didn’t just help me improve, but made me love the subject. His communication is engaging and welcoming, and the advice he provides facilitates understanding of the content. His preparation for lessons are commendable, as he ensures that his approach to teaching aligns with my way of learning. That is another reason why I find David’s lessons so enjoyable, and why I have gradually started to love economics, a subject that I did not feel comfortable with originally. Overall, will definitely recommend if you also want to improve and fall in love with economics!
David is a great tutor who demonstrates in-depth knowledge of economics, in both a content level (in IB) and on a real-life level, as he is able to relate the concepts directly to real-world examples, which enhances the lessons and make it more engaging. David also has a high level of enthusiasm in his approach to teaching, aiming to not only boost grades but also achieve conceptual understanding. Would recommend!
