About Lauren
Hi, I’m Lauren, a young graduate currently working as a teaching assistant in preparation for my PGCE in Education. With a strong academic background and a passion for helping others, I’m excited to offer private tutoring services that make a real difference. Here’s what makes me the right choice for you or your child: Academic Excellence I’ve worked hard to achieve top grades throughout my education, earning A’s in both Maths and English GCSEs, along with outstanding A-Level results in History (A), Sociology (A*), Physical Education (A*), and the Welsh Baccalaureate (A*). I recently graduated with a high 2.1 degree from one of the UK’s top universities, equipping me with the knowledge and skills to tutor in a range of subjects. Tutoring Experience My experience as a tutor at Kumon for two years gave me the opportunity to witness firsthand the transformational impact private tutoring can have on students aged 2 to 18. I saw how personalised teaching could boost confidence, improve academic performance, and ignite a love for learning. Why I Teach As someone who didn’t have private tutoring growing up, I understand the challenges students face and the difference that tailored support can make. It’s my goal to provide the guidance and encouragement I wish I had, helping students reach their full potential. Whether it’s improving their grades, building study habits, or gaining confidence in their abilities, I’m here to help them succeed!

History is more than just a collection of dates and facts—it’s the story of how the world came to be, and understanding it can transform the way we view the present. As a passionate History tutor, my aim is to not only help you excel academically but also ignite a genuine interest in the subject. Whether you're studying for exams, expanding your knowledge, or simply curious about the past, my approach is designed to make history come alive. Connecting the Past to the Present My teaching doesn’t just focus on memorising facts, but rather on building a deeper understanding of how historical events shape the world today. I incorporate contemporary issues, debates, and real-world examples to connect historical topics to the modern world, making the past feel alive and relevant. This not only makes the subject matter more interesting but also helps you see the lasting impact of history on current events. Critical Thinking and Analytical Skills History isn’t just about facts—it’s about understanding why things happened and how various forces influenced the outcomes. I focus on developing your critical thinking and analytical skills by encouraging you to assess historical events from multiple perspectives, question sources, and make connections between different periods of history. This approach fosters a deeper, more nuanced understanding of history. Interactive and Engaging Learning I utilise a range of resources to bring history to life—whether it’s historical documentaries, primary source documents, interactive maps, or even virtual tours of historical sites. Lessons are designed to keep you engaged and excited about learning, with plenty of opportunities for discussion, debate, and hands-on activities to help you solidify your understanding. What a Typical Lesson Looks Like Each lesson is structured to be dynamic and thought-provoking, ensuring you make the most of our time together. Here’s an overview of what you can expect in a typical session: Introduction and Recap (5-10 minutes): We start with a brief discussion to review any previous material and ensure we’re building on what you’ve already learned. If you’re studying for exams, we might start with a review of key concepts or events to reinforce your memory. Focused Learning (20-30 minutes): This is the main part of the lesson where we delve into the core topic. I’ll guide you through the material, breaking down complex events, periods, and ideas into easily digestible segments. We may use primary sources, images, or videos to illustrate key points. I’ll encourage you to analyse these materials and ask questions, making the lesson as interactive as possible. Discussion and Critical Analysis (10-15 minutes): We’ll discuss the historical events in-depth, encouraging you to think critically about the causes, effects, and significance of what you’ve learned. Whether we’re discussing the American Revolution, the impact of slavery in the Americas, or the Scottish independence movement, I will push you to consider the broader implications and challenge your understanding. Review and Consolidation (5-10 minutes): At the end of each lesson, we’ll recap what you’ve learned and ensure you’ve grasped the key concepts. If you have any lingering questions or areas of confusion, we’ll address them. I’ll also give you recommendations for further reading or practice to deepen your understanding before the next session. Customisable Learning Paths: Whether you’re preparing for exams or studying for personal interest, I’ll help you create a learning plan that fits your specific goals. From GCSEs to A-Levels and beyond, I can guide you through the material at your own pace and ensure we cover everything you need. Why My Method Works What makes my approach stand out is that I don’t just teach history—I make it relevant to you. I connect past events with current issues and help you develop a nuanced understanding of historical processes. By fostering critical thinking and analytical skills, I help you gain a deeper appreciation for history, whether you're preparing for exams or exploring the past out of pure curiosity.
