About Umamah
I recently graduated from Oxford with a 2:1 in Theology and Philosophy, due to soon begin my GDL (law conversion course). I have been tutoring students in this subject area since I was at school myself and more recently tutored a GCSE student for their upcoming Religious Studies exams with success. From both my own personal experience as a student and helping others, I have a thorough understanding of what makes a university application competitive and how to produce a quality piece of writing (whether at GCSE/A-level/university level).

In the first lesson, I always begin by assessing the student's level of understanding and their current quality of essay writing. I tend to build a discussion around the material not only though my presentations, but essay tasks I set. I always aim to explain the content as clearly and quickly as possible to ensure my students are getting their full value for money while improving.
I am constantly adding to my teaching materials and researching to ensure my students are not only taught fundamental concepts but that they are able to explore thoughts from more niche sources that they ordinarily would not have access to in school, setting them apart from their peers.
I aim to help students improve upon their essays by providing detailed commentary and suggested essay formats that allow them to more succinctly and strongly argue their point of view.
I am patient and compassionate in the face of mistakes and students having difficulties in grasping the material - I aim to create an open and all-inclusive environment where all my students feel comfortable enough to engage in creative thought and push themselves without fear of embarrassment. As a recent student of school and university myself, I am in a good position to empathise and understand well the stress students are undergoing.
