About Steven
Steven E. Müller is a composer and performance artist, who is currently based in Berlin. From 2014 to 2019, he studied Jazz / Pop Piano and Composition at the University of Arts Berlin.
In 2016, he studied composition at the Conservatorium of Music in Sydney, where he specifically focused on New Music and Electroacoustic Music.
Since October 2019, he is enrolled in the Master's degree for film music composition at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF.
In August 2020, he was in the finals of the "Wettbewerb für Filmmusik und Sounddesign" in Leipzig.

My name is Steven Müller and I am currently enrolled in the master’s program for film music composition in Babelsberg. During my bachelor studies at the University of Arts, I often realized that most of the students and teachers are just trying to avoid mistakes, in order to play the right notes. It is, of course, important to have a solid understanding of music and helpful to be able to read notes. But especially for improvisation and composing, there are other parameters that are as equally important as to perform well at your instrument. One of these is to listen closely to yourself and to what you are actually doing while playing. During my lessons, I will teach you how to become aware of these parameters, in order to get a deeper understanding of the music you are playing. I teach adults and children, people who already have solid understanding of music as well as beginners.
Possible topics of the lessons may be:
- Playing film music pieces and learning to understand them
- Improvisation
- Learn how to play Pop and Jazz arrangements (and how to arrange them by yourself)
- Classical music on an intermediate level
- Music theory (Basics on how to read notes, but also modal Jazz theory or voice leading, whatever you are interested in)
- How does a piano work?
- Technique
If you are interested in the process of making film music, I can also offer the following things:
- How do I proceed in the conception of a film score?
- How can a film music function in context of film and how do I make use of that?
- What equipment do I need to produce film music professionally?
- How can I create professionally sounding orchestral mockups?
- How to create own virtual instruments from self-generated sounds
- Composition techniques
- Music theory (Basics on how to read notes, but also modal Jazz theory or voice leading, whatever you are interested in)
- Composition exercises for various instrumentations

1) Lessons are taught at my place for 25€ per hour (vacations are free, but paid).
2) Lessons are taught online for 25€ per hour (vacations are free, but paid).
3) Lessons are taught at your place for 30€ per hour (vacations are free, but paid).
*All models will be concluded in a contract and can be cancelled within 4 weeks.
