About Jovilda
Hi, I’m Jo! I’m a TEFL-certified British English tutor, a multilingual speaker, and a finance professional with nearly 10 years of experience in accounting and finance.
I speak three languages, and I’m currently learning Portuguese, so I know first-hand what it feels like to learn a new language: forgetting a word you definitely knew yesterday, understanding more than you can confidently say, worrying about making mistakes, and eventually having those amazing moments when everything starts to click!
That experience has made me a much more patient and understanding teacher. I don’t expect perfection. I want my students to feel comfortable speaking, making mistakes, asking questions and building real confidence in English.
I have taught English to students from more than 21 countries, which has given me experience working with people from many different cultures, backgrounds and levels of English. I love meeting people from around the world and adapting my lessons to the individual rather than expecting every student to learn in the same way.
Alongside teaching, I have spent nearly a decade working in accounting and finance and have worked across four major public-sector organisations in England. This professional experience means I can also bring something different to my lessons, particularly for students who want to improve their Business English, prepare for interviews, communicate more confidently at work, give presentations, write professional emails or simply feel more comfortable speaking English in a professional environment.
But you don’t need to be learning English for work! Whether your goal is to feel confident having everyday conversations, improve your grammar and vocabulary, travel, study, work in an English-speaking environment, or simply stop translating everything in your head before you speak, I would love to help you get there.
My lessons are friendly, relaxed, and encouraging, but they also have a clear purpose: helping you become confident enough actually to use the English you are learning.
As someone who is still experiencing the highs and frustrations of language learning myself, I won’t just teach you English; I’ll understand the journey you’re on too.

My lessons are friendly, practical and tailored to each student’s goals, level and learning style. I use a mix of conversation, guided practice, vocabulary building, grammar support, reading, listening and real-life examples to help students become more confident using English naturally.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, although shorter or longer sessions can be arranged depending on the student’s needs.
I am TEFL certified and have experience teaching students from over 21 countries. I have worked with learners from different backgrounds, abilities and confidence levels, so I understand the importance of adapting lessons to the individual rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
My lessons are suitable for teenagers and adults, from beginner to more advanced learners. I can support students with general ESOL, conversational English, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, workplace English and Business English. I also have a professional background in finance, so I can provide extra support for students who want to improve their English for work, interviews, presentations or professional communication.
Most importantly, I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and progressing at their own pace.
