About Caleigh-Skye
I am a first-year student at Embury for my B.Ed in Foundation Phase Teaching, but I already have my TEFL certificate and have had many years of experience working with children from ages 3-12 as an aftercare teacher and a teacher's assistant. I have taught a few lessons already, and my TEFL certificate is proof that I am good at teaching a class or an individual student and help them improve. I am highly proficient in the English language and am very confident in my ability to help others reach a point where they can be fluent and proficient in it as well. As a bonus, I know the basics of other foreign languages such as Korean and Japanese, so if a student, whose first language is either Korean or Japanese, is struggling with English, I will be able to communicate the basics to them and guide them using their language too.

When I teach students, I start by figuring out how much they already know by giving them a basic assessment, and once the assessment has been completed, I use the results to structure the syllabus, making sure I don't spend too much time on the things the student already knows and thus clearing up more time for the more important topics. I shall also assess the preferred learning method of the student, as all students are different and they all have different ways of collecting and storing information effectively, and after the assessment, I shall plan my lessons and teach them to best fit the student's preferred learning method. I do not believe in rushing through a syllabus and thus will never pressurise a student to work faster than they feel comfortable. If a student is struggling with a specific section of the lesson plan, we shall focus more on that section until they are feeling comfortable enough to move on. As for homework, I do not believe that loading a student with homework is the best way to learn. They should make the most of the time they spend with me and try their utmost to work as hard as they can in our session, then when they return home, a break is essential, and they can try again when they see me. Having said that, practice does make perfect and keeping tabs of one's progress is vital, so I do ask that my students revise the work, specifically vocabulary, that they have done with me for at least 15 minutes a day, and I do recommend a daily reading session of 15 minutes every morning or every night before bed. No student is pressurised to do this however, it is for their benefit that they do the recommended extra work, but I will never force a student to do the work, or scold them for forgetting. My cancellation policy is as follows:
- Students will get a fixed minimum time of 24 hours before the lesson to cancel. Only in case of an emergency can the student cancel after the 24 hour time period.
