About Lucian
I am a trumpet player at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I play in UCSB's top Jazz Big Band and Combo. I was also an ALl-State symphonic trumpet player in high school. I have experience in many professional and academic playing environments. I love playing music with everyone!

My lessons focus on the fundamentals of trumpet playing for all disciplines. Whether you are brand new to the instrument, or have been playing for years, there are always way to achieve improvement. I focus on consistency. I have found success in my playing not through rigorous daily exercises, but connecting with my instrument and feeling inspired to practice meaningfully. I believe that students who want to pickup their horns will be the students that achieve the greatest level of musicianship. That being said, we must practice to get better!
Fundamental Skills I emphasize:
Sound Production: The most fundamental part of playing the trumpet. It's who you are as a player!
Flexibility: How we get from one note to another, it should feel and sound easy!
Articulation: How every note we play is spoken. (Think about this like punctuation in a sentence)
Skills I specialize in:
Jazz improvisation: How to understand the form of music, navigate chord changes, and play stylistically.
Section material: How to blend with other trumpet players in a section, how to approach working together. Applies to all Symphonic, Jazz, Orchestra.
Music Theory: I am well versed in the theoretical side of music as well. If you are interested in learning theory, this can certainly supplement your trumpet journey!
