About Arshna

My name is Arshna. I am originally from Germany and have been living in England for several years.

At school, I struggled with maths and often felt anxious about attending lessons. I had a tutor who helped me improve through consistent practice, and over time I realised it wasn’t my ability holding me back, but my confidence and the learning environment. That experience completely changed how I view education. I strongly believe every child can improve in maths when they are given the right support, encouragement, and teaching approach.

This change in mindset helped me go on to achieve an A* in Maths GCSE, something I never expected at the time, and showed me the real impact confidence and support can have on learning.

During university, I tutored primary school children who were struggling with maths and confidence. I loved seeing their progress — especially when they began to engage more, feel more confident, and in some cases even start to enjoy maths.

I focus on making maths clear, accessible, and less intimidating through simple explanations, repetition, and lots of guided practice in a positive and encouraging environment.

I am a patient, supportive tutor who specialises in primary maths (KS1 and KS2), particularly for children who need help building foundations, catching up, or growing in confidence. My lessons are calm, structured, and adapted to each child’s pace so they feel supported and able to succeed.

My aim is to meet each child where they are and support them in getting to where they want to be. I help children feel more at ease with maths and, over time, build confidence, understanding, and even enjoyment of the subject. I also focus on building a positive, trusting relationship so sessions feel encouraging and the child has a safe, comfortable space to learn.

I adapt my teaching to each individual learner. For some, this means revisiting core foundations and breaking concepts into clear, manageable steps. I use a mix of visual explanations, real-life examples, and guided practice to make maths more accessible, engaging, and less intimidating.

A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on age, focus, and individual needs. Sessions are structured but flexible, usually including a quick review, focused teaching, guided practice, and a short recap to reinforce understanding and build confidence.

I have several years of experience working with children and young people in therapeutic and educational settings, including five years as a Therapeutic Team Lead at a charity called SOFEA, where I supported young people in alternative education who struggled in mainstream schooling. My background in psychology and safeguarding helps me quickly build rapport and support learners who may feel anxious, lack confidence, or find learning challenging.

My lessons are mainly for primary school children (KS1 and KS2), particularly those needing support with confidence, foundational maths skills, or catching up. I am especially experienced in working with children who benefit from a calm, patient, and supportive learning environment.
