About Matthew
Hello! I'm a passionate mathematics and statistics educator currently pursuing my PhD in Statistics at Trinity College Dublin. My academic journey began with an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from TCD, where I achieved first-class honors with an exceptional 83% overall grade and was awarded the gold medal for academic excellence. From there my love for the subject drew me toward further studies, so I decided to pursue a doctoral degree. I believe that mathematics and statistics are not subjects to be feared, but powerful tools that open doors to understanding the world. My approach focuses on demystifying complex concepts by breaking them into clear, logical steps. Having been in the same position myself, I totally understand the pressures students face and the specific challenges of our curriculum. As both a researcher and educator, I bring academic rigor combined with genuine enthusiasm for helping students succeed. My recent undergraduate experience means I have fresh insight into learning challenges, while my PhD studies ensure I can provide the highest level of mathematical and statistical understanding. Every student learns differently, and I adapt my teaching methods to match individual learning styles, whether visual, analytical, or practical. I'm committed to helping you not just improve your grades, but develop genuine confidence and appreciation for mathematics and statistics that will serve you throughout your academic and professional journey. I am available to teach Leaving and Junior Certificate curricula, as well as university level topics in pure and applied mathematics and statistics.

My tutoring approach centers on building genuine understanding rather than memorizing formulas. I found Matthew extremely patient when explaining maths. His delivery of the subject made me feel confident in learning due to the way he explained it. This allowed me to work out the answer as much as possible on my own and only when I got stuck would Matthew step in when I struggled to find the answer. This helped me better understand the maths questions without feeling pressured to get the answer right away. Matthew made learning maths fun and engaging.
