About Kitana
At the age of two, my youngest son was diagnosed with Autism in 1992. I began intensive remedial therapies with him, and when his diagnosis changed to severely learning disabled at age 6, I enrolled him at the Lab School of Washington, DC. I began my two-year Master's degree in Special Education and simultaneously completed my internship at Lab School. Since then, I have worked as a Special Ed tutor with neurodiverse students, and I love helping each child discover a love of learning and achieve their full potential. I also work with neurotypical kids, believing that many students could benefit from individualized one-on-one instruction.

I work with students online through Zoom. I am always punctual and prepared, sharing an ongoing Google document with each student. My approach is to empower students to advocate for themselves by asking questions and understanding that mistakes are growth opportunities. I prepare in advance by creating a specialized plan for each student, and I share my short-term and long-term goals with the students so that they are involved in their advancement process. I am enthusiastic and passionate, and I believe I can get great results through my honest and supportive feedback as I help students navigate their skills better.
