About Timothy
¡Hola! Soy Timothy, tengo 32 años y soy de Durango, Colorado (USA). Llevo estudiando español durante 4 años, y he viajado y vivido en países hispanohablantes por un tiempo acumulado de más de un año, completamente inmerso en el idioma, la cultura y el estilo de vida. Mi forma de viajar es bastante particular: viajo a través del skateboarding. El skate es cómo conecto con la gente local y hago amigos en cada ciudad y cada país al que voy. Gracias a eso, he aprendido un español real, natural y lleno de uso cotidiano. También llevo más de un año enseñando inglés, lo que me ha dado mucha experiencia para entender las dificultades más comunes de los estudiantes y cómo explicarlas de una forma clara. Actualmente ya enseño español a dos estudiantes, y en mis clases trabajamos: gramática fundamental y aplicada vocabulario útil y contextual práctica de conversación diferencias y errores comunes que los angloparlantes suelen cometer estrategias para ganar fluidez de manera natural Me encanta viajar y aprender idiomas, porque cada lengua abre puertas a un mundo completamente nuevo: nuevas personas, lugares, experiencias y oportunidades. Si quieres aprender español de una forma auténtica, práctica y cercana a la vida real, estaré encantado de ayudarte en tu camino. Hi! I’m Timothy, a 32-year-old from Durango, Colorado (USA). I’ve been studying Spanish for 4 years and have lived/traveled in Spanish-speaking countries for over a year in total, fully immersed in the language and culture. I teach through a practical approach influenced by my travels and my lifestyle of skateboarding, which is how I connect with locals everywhere I go. I’ve also been teaching English for over a year, so I understand very well the common challenges English speakers face when learning Spanish. I currently teach Spanish to two students, covering grammar, vocabulary, conversation practice, and the common mistakes English speakers tend to make. Do you want to learn Spanish?
I have spent several years studying Spanish, speaking it with real native speakers and traveling to Latin America and living with locals all in an effort to not only speak the language fluently, but also to understand how it works. I understand the frustrations and challenges of learning a new language like Spanish, and I am here to help you learn and/or improve your skills.
When you learn a new language (especially one so widely used like Spanish), you don't just improve yourself or open up new possibilities for traveling that will help you get around on your next adventure, you open up the doors to learning more about the world around you. You open up the doors to new experiences, friendships and memories that you will remember forever. At least that's what it is for me.
I have lived in almost every country in South America for at least a month, in some cases 3-4 months, and I can tell you first hand that the experience is better the more you are able to speak and communicate with people.
It shouldn't just be about ordering food, getting around the city, it should be about sharing our cultures, our languages, our ideas with one another.
You will meet like minded people, and maybe even like me, meet some of your best friends.
I will teach you everything I have learned from years of studying. Not just routine grammar exercises, but sentence structure, how things work and how you can do more than just "get by" when you hopefully go on your next trip.
