About Yesenia
Born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, I earned a bachelor's degree in Modern Languages from the University of Atlántico and a law degree from the University of La Gran Colombia. I also held a master's degree in Literary Studies from the National University of Colombia. As a doctoral student, my research interests focus on Afro-Latin American literature and gender studies. My creative work includes the poetry books “Anoche soñé con cocodrilos” and “Ensueño negro del África mía," and two children's literature books: "Mamá Avó" and "¿En dónde estás Masmelo?".

I'm very flexible with my teaching methods, trying to adapt my class to my student's needs. I emphasize a communicative approach, in order to get the most out of every lesson. You will be really delighted with learning Spanish. My goal as a teacher is to motivate my students to learn and find meaning in what they do in every class. I strive to show them the benefits of learning a foreign language and the advantages of bilingualism. But above all, I try they find a connection between what they learn and what they do.

Perfect! Patience is number one thing that is important to me when learning something new. I sometimes have a hard time pronouncing words so learning a new language can be stressful and scary at times. Yesenia was very gentle with me and guiding me along the way. Perfect! Yesenia is a great teacher. I would highly recommend her to anyone learning Spanish. She’s very patient and has great resources to use for studying after a lesson. Yesenia uses online lessons and practice exercises and videos to teach a topic. You get a lot of practice speaking Spanish and using what was learned in the lesson in a conversational manner. When it comes to scheduling lessons, she’s willing to work with your schedule.

Yesenia is a vibrant and inspiring teacher - great balance of pushing you to improve but also sensitive to where you are as a learner
She customized my tutoring experience to how I learn best e.g. I am a dancer so hearing Spanish with music helps me retain the language -Yesenia went above and beyond by finding lessons related to songs - and even played with dance movements as I will be teaching choreography in Colombia soon - I am confident she will find a way to help you learn Spanish that suits you ! If you are more cerebral - she will teach you in a more academic way - as she teaches at a university as well -
