About Nicholas
I am a trumpeter born and raised in Louisville, KY. My father is a professional orchestral trumpeter, and my mother was an opera singer. I have been involved in music my whole life, and consider it a part of my life. I now attend the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as a Wells Scholar, where I study Trumpet Performance and Jazz Studies. I also sing jazz on the side. I have significant experience teaching music, and find curriculum development and student growth to be an exciting area of interest!

My educational philosophy is that of teaching a student how to teach himself/herself. I do this by first opening their ears to how the music should sound, so that they may then decide how they want to sound themselves. I am NOT a person who believes in mundane and exhausting amounts of rudimentary exercises and fluff, because that approach doesn’t work for an instrument as physical as the trumpet. However, I do believe in diligent practice. I want to teach students how to play music, and more importantly, to have a broader understanding and appreciation for the music they play.
