About Ava
My career as a musician and pianist has covered a broad range of skill-sets, from solo performance of classical, pop, rock, and contemporary to ensemble performance of jazz, orchestral, marching, and musical theater. My collegiate training in piano was first obtained from the Dean at Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music, David Allan Wehr, and continued with one of the school's adjunct piano professors, Anoush Tchakarian. However, I first began learning piano as a self-taught musician, so I am familiar with the common pitfalls and damaging habits, as well as how to go about correcting them. After a short but demanding stint as a pianist to countless ensembles in my youth, I was diagnosed with chronic tendinitis in my wrists, and have since worked with my college instructors to develop an adjusted and healthier technique for my hands. The process was grueling but worth it, and it is important to me that I teach my students to value their hands as instruments that need maintenance and care, and not just the means to the end while creating music.

My lessons are based around an early knowledge of theory, or 'understanding what you play.' I have extensive experience teaching all ages and levels, as well as sensitivity to not only correct, but healthy technique that keeps a pianist's hands taken care of, and allows those pianists with damaged hands new methods for playing that will invoke less pain and fatigue.
My rates for weekly lessons are as follows:
30 minutes / week - $100 / month
45 minutes / week - $150 / month
60 minutes / week - $190 / month
