About Marcin
I am an affiliated lecturer at Cambridge University, where I worked as a postdoc research associate and senior research associate for six years, following my earlier two years as a postdoc at the University of California Berkeley. I did my PhD at the University of Barcelona (with distinction), and my undergrad at the Jagiellonian University of Kraków in my native Poland. Before my university career, I also used to work as a teacher of English and a journalist. This itinerary gives me a unique international perspective on what is needed in order to get to the world's top universities.
I have been supervising PhD, MPhil and undergrad students at Cambridge and elsewhere. I have also worked on MPhil and PhD admissions and exam boards, and I have been part of several grant committees. My work has been published in high-impact factor peer-reviewed journals and book collections, and I am a regular speaker at universities and civil society organisations worldwide. My areas of expertise are sociology of gender, sexuality, race and reproduction, but I have also taught on several other topics in social sciences and humanities.
I enjoy working with students and supporting them in making the best of their research. A reflection of this is the University of Cambridge Postdoc Award I received in 2021 across all three categories: research endeavour, supporting and developing others, and creating inclusive and positive research culture. This is reflected in my private tutoring, which is student-centred while it acknowledges the top university requirements for excellent scholarship.

I draw on my six years of experience in Cambridge supervision system, as well as two years of work with students at UC Berkeley - in Sociology, Gender Studies, and also more broadly Social Sciences and Humanities.
Each session is structured around the student's particular needs and interests.
We can work together through essay questions or dissertation topics so as to develop an original, innovative and critical approach. In case of dissertations, we devise and implement a sustainable research plan.
We can discuss and improve application letters, research or teaching statements, research proposals, ethics protocols, research papers and any other material.
We can practice mock interviews for MPhil and PhD admissions as well as for grant competitions.
I have experience in work with students from international, multi-cultural and minority backgrounds, aiming to emphasise the unique contribution and social justice perspective that each student can bring.
In our initial free session, we will discuss your expectations, assess your familiarity with the field and devise an initial plan of action.
