About Mai
I am a university pre-medical student studying the sciences, with a strong academic foundation and a genuine passion for reading and writing. While my studies focus on science and analytical thinking, I have always loved English and communication, and I value the role strong literacy skills play in long-term academic success.
I approach tutoring with both structure and empathy. I take the time to carefully plan each lesson and tailor it to the individual needs of every student. I keep detailed notes on student progress, strengths, and areas for improvement to ensure that each session builds meaningfully on the last.
Beyond academics, I prioritize developing a positive and encouraging relationship with my students. I believe that children learn best when they feel understood, supported, and confident. My goal is not only to help students improve their skills, but also to help them feel proud of their growth and excited about learning.

I am very passionate about helping children develop strong reading and writing skills in a way that feels encouraging, engaging, and enjoyable. I believe learning should never feel intimidating, it should build confidence and curiosity.
For early learners (ages 3+), I use a structured phonics-based approach to teach children how to sound out words, blend letter sounds, recognize patterns, and build fluency with sight words. I incorporate repetition, guided reading, and interactive activities so that learning feels fun and rewarding rather than overwhelming.
For elementary and middle school students, I focus on strengthening reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. I teach students how to identify main ideas, summarize texts clearly, analyze characters and themes, and organize their thoughts effectively in writing. I also provide support with grammar, sentence structure, paragraph development, and essay writing.
Above all, my goal is to create a safe and positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing themselves. I strive to make every lesson both productive and enjoyable, helping students grow academically while building lasting confidence in their abilities.
