About Jill
In my 6 years of teaching guitar, I've come to realize that the most effective learning happens when students are actively engaged in the music they love. That's why I prioritize understanding each student's musical preferences and goals, using that information to guide our lessons. Whether it's a favorite song, a particular genre, or a specific guitar technique, I tailor our sessions to ensure that learning is both relevant and enjoyable. Technical skills such as proper posture, finger placement, and rhythmic accuracy are essential, but I believe they should always be taught in the context of real music. I integrate music theory into lessons in a way that is practical and easy to understand, showing students how concepts like chord progressions, scales, and rhythm patterns apply directly to the music they play. I also emphasize the importance of creativity and self-expression, encouraging students to experiment with improvisation, compose their own music, and develop their unique musical voice. One of the most fulfilling aspects of teaching is witnessing students' growth—not just in their technical abilities, but in their confidence, creativity, and emotional connection to music.
