About Eleanor
I have been tutoring unofficially since a young age having a younger sibling I used to help him prepare for tests in primary school! I have tutored a number of peers during my time at A level and at university in particular areas of their study. A couple of students have very flatteringly attributed their getting a 2.1 at degree level to my help.

My name is Eleanor Collinson, I am a recent Graduate student and work as a research assistant at Newcastle University. I have experience in teaching a range of biological concepts to younger pupils and peers.
My lesson structure can be tailored to suit the needs of the student, taking into consideration the age of the student and particular aspect of biology that they may be struggling with. My general approach to tutoring would be however identifying the particular area that the pupil may be struggling with and approaching the topic or explaining it from a new angle, if possible using real life examples to explain the theory as I believe that if you can see a 'complicated' biological process occurring in the real world it becomes much easier to understand it's importance and underlying mechanisms. It also becomes a lot more interesting! Once the pupil has more confidence and understanding of the subject I would then try to go through past papers or questions with them at the start and then try to get them to be able to answer them on their own.
I understand that many students may have put up a mental block to a certain problem, not feel confident in themselves and their understanding of a topic, or not feel confident enough to ask questions in class and as such feel that the subject is moving to quick for them to follow and panic. My aim would be primarily to build up their confidence, understanding and interest in the topic.
