About Aaron
Before beginning my teaching career here in New Orleans, I graduated from California State University, Fullerton (Class of 2020) with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Cinema and Television Arts. I was incredibly grateful to receive the full ride scholarship that made my experience possible for all four years and took it upon myself to get involved with several aspects of campus life. These included being a camp counselor, resident advisor, student ambassador, student body president, and dance marathon fundraiser. All of these opportunities encouraged me to pursue my passion of teaching and continue impacting students (now at a high school level) right here in New Orleans, LA. I am a creative, amiable, and determined individual who is committed to your long-term success. As a high school teacher in New Orleans, I have had the opportunity to guide over 150 students (9th & 11th) through a variety of complex texts and deeper learning, culturally relevant curriculum including research papers on college/career pathways, creative writing short stories, and comparative analysis writings. I have also seen impactful systems implemented that have led to an average of one year of reading growth for 9th and 11th grade students this past semester with students who received targeted interventions one-on-one saw higher growth. In the classroom, I utilize PearDeck presentations and deeper learning, standards-aligned assessments to both educate and excite my 9th and 11th grade students about the content we cover. I have implemented a data-driven approach that begins with a baseline to assess where you're at in relation to reading/writing + other content areas. I follow your baseline with instructional materials that are adapted to your preferred learning style and frequent learning target checks to observe your growth in a particular skillset. Lastly, I make space for you to reflect on your growth and how we can continue to replicate the systems and habits that led to your success with the skill/concept. My lessons + small grouping techniques + one-on-one interventions are built for my high school audience but I am always willing and able to adapt these procedures for more rigorous courses or material. I am determined to be an invaluable help to ensuring your personal pathway to success, whatever that may look like for you specifically. Whether that includes communication/assistance outside of regularly scheduled tutoring sessions, providing accommodations/modifications to materials, or anything else, I'm game for it.
