I am a dedicated, enthusiastic, and happy TEFL and language tutor. I really enjoy teaching because I enjoy learning too. Through my teaching experience, I have seen the joy and excitement a student feels as they learn and apply what they're taught. Teaching also shaped my personality to be more adaptable, friendly, and patient. I believe that a teacher needs to be humble so that they can adjust to the student's level and create a comfortable learning atmosphere.

  • When did you develop an interest in your subject and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in these subjects in high school because of my love for languages. I first began tutoring privately when a family friend asked me to assist their child with Afrikaans. I doubted my ability, but used that opportunity to improve in that aspect of teaching. I then worked with other parents and eventually got a TEFL certificate to cement my skills.
  • Tell us more about the subject or subjects you teach, the topics and techniques you like to discuss with/demonstrate to students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach English and Afrikaans. I encourage students to create a "dictionary" which adds to their vocabulary and improves spelling, reading and creative writing skills. I used this method to learn Afrikaans and it helped me excel at school.
  • Do you have any role models? Perhaps a teacher that inspired you? Tell us who, and why.

I don't have any role models. However, at my weekly Christian meetings, we participate in practice sessions that focus on improving conversation and teaching skills. So I learn from those demonstrations and try to work on different skills each week.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good teacher or tutor?

I think that patience, love for people and for your subject are the most important qualities. It takes patience to explain a concept that you understand to someone who is new to it. You also need to patiently wait for your students to arrive for a lesson and be understanding when they're unable to complete tasks because of a busy schedule. Love for people encompasses all other qualities and love for your subject fuels how you teach.
  • Could you share an anecdote related to your subject or your schooldays?

I can be quite creative at times and thrive in my creative writing. My teachers enjoyed reading my essays and I usually scored well. Thus I became the "editor" of my class. Most students asked me to either write, give them ideas or edit their scripts. I found this funny because of how they approached me for assistance.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing at school or during yo training?

Though I was intelligent, I found it very challenging to study. I loved reading crime/thriller books but failed to pay more attention to my educational books. I still find it difficult to study, but I do my best to prepare for lessons.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of this particular subject, or something completely different?

I have various passions. I am passionate about volunteering in construction projects, arts and crafts, and teaching /studying the Bible. Teaching is something I'm also passionate about because I love people and languages.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

I am on my way to being a Superprof 😂. I love people and enjoy teaching. I am still working on my teaching skills so that I am more patient and kind. The feedback I receive from parents and kids also boosts me to improve and become a Superprof.
  • Is there anything else you would like your students to know about you?

I like laughing, music and dancing. I find joy in the simplest things. I enjoy teaching kids a lot and engaging in conversations on various topics. I find it humbling to teach others because I learn as well.
