About Gary
Hello, I'm Gary, a qualified teacher with over 30 years of experience in education. Throughout my career, I have worked as a Teacher, SENDCo, Senior Leader, Headteacher, University Educator and Private Tutor, supporting students of all ages and abilities.
I enjoy teaching Biology because it helps students understand the living world around them, from cells and genetics to ecosystems and human physiology. It is a subject that encourages curiosity, develops scientific thinking and helps students make sense of many of the issues affecting society today.
I particularly enjoy one-to-one tutoring as it allows me to tailor lessons to each student's individual needs and learning style. Whether a student is aiming to improve confidence, strengthen subject knowledge or achieve the highest grades, I strive to create a supportive environment in which they can thrive.
Alongside tutoring, I currently work within a university Education Department and continue to draw upon both extensive practical experience and current educational research to inform my teaching.

My approach to tutoring is centred on developing confidence, understanding and independent learning. My lessons are designed to build these skills in a supportive and engaging environment.
I begin by identifying a student's strengths and areas for development before tailoring lessons to their individual needs. Particular attention is given to developing subject knowledge, scientific vocabulary, data analysis, practical understanding and examination technique. As confidence grows, students become better able to explain biological concepts clearly and apply their understanding to a range of question types.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long and are delivered online using professional equipment, including a visualiser and webcam, allowing explanations, diagrams and worked examples to be shared clearly and interactively. As examinations approach, lessons become increasingly focused on revision, past papers, mark schemes and examiner expectations.
With over 30 years' experience in education, I have supported students of varying abilities and backgrounds. Whether a student is seeking to improve confidence, raise grades or achieve the highest marks, my aim is to help them reach their full potential and develop a genuine understanding of Biology.
