About Benjamin
I am a qualified teacher and Durham University graduate with more than 13 years’ teaching and tutoring experience. I have taught over 14,000 lessons and have worked at Sherborne School and Institut auf dem Rosenberg in Switzerland, where I supported pupils preparing for demanding British and international examinations.
I specialise in critical thinking, academic writing and competitive admissions, including LNAT preparation, 16+ examinations, personal statements and interviews. I help students analyse complex material, develop precise arguments and express their ideas clearly and persuasively under timed conditions.
My approach combines rigorous preparation with calm encouragement. I identify precisely where marks are being lost, teach the underlying reasoning clearly, and help students apply it confidently. I always aim to make lessons enjoyable as well as challenging.
As a former England international athlete, I also understand the importance of preparation, resilience and performing calmly under pressure.

My LNAT lessons are individually planned around the student’s test date, intended universities and particular areas for improvement. We begin by assessing reading speed, reasoning accuracy, essay writing and examination technique.
For the multiple-choice section, I teach students to identify assumptions, evaluate arguments and distinguish supported conclusions from attractive distractors. Timed practice is introduced gradually as the method becomes secure.
For the essay, students learn to interpret the question precisely, establish a clear position, select relevant examples, address counterarguments and write persuasively under pressure. Lessons develop genuine critical thinking rather than dependence upon memorised templates.
I am a qualified teacher and Durham University graduate with more than 13 years’ teaching and tutoring experience, including specialist work in LNAT preparation, 16+ critical thinking, argumentative essay writing and competitive university admissions.

Ben tutored our son for 3 years, first in French and then in both French and Spanish. The results were incredible, with our son so much more able to hold a conversation than when he was just studying a language in school. I can speak French so I can attest to the significant improvement in his ability. Ben is just an amazing tutor.
Always a great experience when we have used Ben at Artisan Tuition. The children always enjoy their time, and Ben is great at imparting the knowledge that they need. Clear communication and friendly. Highly recommended!
I contacted Benjamin after reading his profile on another tutoring site to help my daughter prepare for her 11 plus. After establishing a level of learning Benjamin set out a learning plan focused on my daughter's weaker areas, all with the aim to give greater knowledge and confidence to understand the structure of the 11 plus paper. Benjamin is always calming in his voice and in his lesson delivery, incorporating varied learning styles. My daughter has gone from being so nervous about private tuition to looking forward to Benjamin's next lesson, which just happens to be 2 hours long! Benjamin always gives feedback before leaving and will email targeted lessons to complete ready for his next visit and measure improvement. My daughter's confidence has improved so much, it's a delight to see. I recommend Benjamin to anyone looking for extra tuition.
Ben is an incredible tutor and I would highly recommend him, he is extremely patient and understanding and my daughter has gained confidence within a relatively short period of time. He has a very gentle and encouraging teaching style and clearly explains new concepts. We are feeling positive for our 11+ outcome.
Realizing your full potential is only possible with the right person in your corner. Benjamin is that person. He's come from six generations of teaching and has the credentials to back it up. Choosing Benjamin is one of the easiest and smartest decisions you can make.
I've gotten to know Ben over this past year, and it is evident that he is passionate about education. Not only is he passionate, but he's also extremely knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects, from history and economics to literature and media. I know this personally from the extended discussions we've had on all sorts of topics (often over a burger)! He's professional, friendly, and clearly loves what he does.
I’ve known Benjamin for over a decade as an approachable, knowledgeable and highly reliable person, and I would strongly recommend him as an Lnat tutor. He is patient and encouraging, explains concepts clearly, and takes the time to understand and adapt to each student’s individual needs. He is an engaging teacher and an excellent communicator who creates a supportive learning environment while helping students challenge themselves and improve. I have learned a great deal from Benjamin, and would have no hesitation recommending him to any Superprof members looking for an exceptional and experienced tutor!
I met Ben when studying my A-levels, during which he taught me history. Without hesitation, Ben was the tutor I felt closest to throughout my studies, which makes him stand out among all the teachers I have had through multiple schools and qualifications.
Foremost, Benjamin is a teacher who really values and emphasises the process of learning. He is deeply interested in it, which is very much felt during his lessons. To this I may add that he has a rare but important ability to read the room, both academically, in terms of how well I was grasping the topic, but also on a personal one. This ability to feel my academic progress was very important, as my circumstances placed me on a very tight schedule for mastering my course. The personal connection during the lessons, in combination with Ben's lively and engaging delivery of content, meant that a lesson with him never felt like a chore, but rather something I was often looking forward to. Specifically, it was an interesting challenge when turning in any writing or research I had done for discussions, as it always proved difficult, in an academically positive way, to fully defend my work for Ben, as he would find ways or approaches to push me to greater expertise on a topic. This made our time together extremely valuable, as our lessons never bogged down in a simple explanation of the topic, but instead into sophisticated deep-rooted and structural-level understanding even to the point of knowing why a topic is taught in a specific way.
I can therefore wholeheartedly endorse Benjamin to anyone who wishes for their lessons to feel like a passionate discussion with a friend, yet who still wishes to achieve the academic progress they desire, thanks to Ben's ability to gently yet appropriately push his students to great heights.Benjamin and I taught together several years ago, and we have stayed in touch to talk teaching. I worked as school director and his direct supervisor. I was impressed by the passion, dedication, adaptability, and knowledge he brought to his work. Benjamin's experience is broad, which helps him excel in unusual situations that might unsettle other teachers. He is especially good at winning skeptical young students over.
Benjamin is an excellent teacher, and I heartily recommend him.Ben truly cares about his students thriving. He is adept at crafting bespoke ways of learning depending upon each student. His knowledge and wisdom make our regular conversations always interesting and enjoyable.
I’d highly recommend his services.Benjamin is a very competent and effective teacher with a heart of compassion and genuine desire to uplift his students through learning
Benjamin has been a superb tutor for my 10-year-old son. He is a nurturing teacher, but one who pushes when necessary. Above all, he has a sincere and profound sense of vocation as an educator.
Ben has been tutoring my son, Areez, since December 2025, and we have been extremely pleased with his support. He has extensive knowledge of the Trafford 11+ GL exam, which was exactly what we were looking for, and his expertise has been clear from day one.
Areez thoroughly enjoys his lessons with Ben and finds them engaging and interesting. The feedback Ben provides after each session is detailed, thoughtful, and genuinely helpful. He is always available to discuss Areez’s progress, answer questions, and put our minds at ease.
Having attended Altrincham Grammar School himself — the very school my son hopes to join — Ben brings invaluable first‑hand insight into what the school expects and how best to prepare.
I would be more than happy to recommend Ben to anyone looking for a respectable, knowledgeable, and thorough tutor. We have been delighted with his support and will definitely be looking to use him for our daughter in the near future.
SalmaanI have known Benjamin for a long time (and we have shared names even longer!) and benefitted from his patient and expert tutoring, particularly in languages and critical thinking.
