About Sarah
I have five years of classroom experience teaching Science across Years 7–11, including AQA GCSE Combined Science Trilogy. I hold a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education with teachables in Science, Maths, and Family Studies, giving me a broad grounding in both subjects I tutor.
Alongside my UK teaching role, I've built experience through university-level tutoring and substitute/placement teaching in Canada, working with students across a range of ages and abilities. I specialise in GCSE Maths and Science at both Foundation and Higher tier, and I'm confident supporting students working towards AQA and Edexcel exams.
My classroom background means I know exactly what examiners look for and where students typically lose marks, so I can help target revision efficiently and build genuine confidence in the subject.

My lessons are structured but relaxed — I want students to feel comfortable asking questions rather than worrying about getting things wrong. I usually start by checking understanding from previous work, then focus on the areas where a student needs the most support, using past paper questions and mark schemes to build exam technique alongside subject knowledge.
I mix visual explanations, worked examples, and independent practice, adapting my approach to how each student learns best. Building confidence matters a lot to me — many students arrive feeling anxious about a subject, so I break tricky topics into manageable steps and make sure to recognise progress along the way.

Sarah is both professional and personable. Her approach is catered to each student's needs, and explanations are broken down so the students understand the concepts fully. Sarah strikes a great balance between keeping lessons engaging and also fun for the students. I highly recommend Sarah for tutoring science and maths at GCSE level!
Ms Polley really cares about her students. She provided additional support to my daughter in maths and science and it was so rewarding to watch her confidence increase after each session.
Sarah was an amazing tutor, helped me achieve the marks I wanted, and greatly boosted my confidence in the classroom!
