About Laurie

The humanities have always captured my interest. I love learning about the world, asking questions, and thinking critically about the answers that are readily available. This passion has stayed with me throughout my teaching career and I love working with young people to help them come to see the world a little bit differently.

I am a qualified Geography teacher (PGCE Geography with Humanities) and have over 7 years experience of teaching and tutoring. I have taught in a range of schools; both state and private, UK-based and international. I have also worked in middle leadership and have worked extensively in teacher training. I hold a National Professional Qualification in Leading Teacher Development.

In 2023, I won a national award for the progress my Sociology students made.

Our first session will be to establish where you are at and how I can help. This may be to focus on gaps in your knowledge, exam skills, or simply to find joy in the subject again.

From here, I will tailor sessions to your needs, giving live feedback, example answers, and helping you to progress. This will be done through a mix of real world examples, low stakes assessments (e.g. verbal quizzes) and past papers.

The aim of these sessions is not to 'spoon feed' content, but to work with you to find ways to understand, remember, and write about the subject.
