About Christine
My name is Christine and I have spent most of my life studying and teaching the English language. I was lucky to be able to take my favourite subject at school and turn it into a career that I have loved. I completed my Master's degree in Education (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - TESOL) while living and working in Japan. I love travelling to learn about different cultures, meet so many interesting people, see such spectacular natural and human-made wonders and, of course, try new and exciting food. I am lucky my own skills allowed me to teach in England, Peru, Japan, Brunei Darussalam, and the United Arab Emirates. But I guess, Australia has always been home. I love the beaches (despite the sharks and stingers), bush (despite such horrible fires in Victoria where I grew up), animals (despite the deadliest snakes in the world) and people (despite ...). I am a fanatical Geelong Cats AFL supporter, having stayed a Member of the club even when there's been no hope of attending games - while in other countries and in NT and QLD. I have to admit though, my favourite year of footy was 2020 when most of the Cats games were played at the Gabba! I'm still trying to understand Rugby League but barrack loudly for the Maroons anyway. I come from a large, farming family but now live alone with my beautiful cat, Ebony.

If the pandemic made it difficult for you or your child to put your full attention into learning English, now is the time to get back on track in developing your language skills. I approach teaching as a student-centred activity where learning to use the English language well involves improving in reading, writing, listening and speaking, and having some fun while doing so. There are certain skills you may find harder to develop whether you are completing school exercises or longer assignments, or training and applying for a job. We can concentrate on the skills you most need while confidence is increased through developing a broader knowledge of, and feel for, the English language we require for study, and also use to enjoy a fuller life. If you are wanting to: . recognize new words . spell vocabulary correctly . . pronounce words clearly in speaking and reading . comprehend what you read . be able to give spoken responses and ask questions . write sensible and informative emails, or more detailed reports, letters or essays it may at times be quite difficult. But, I am able to help and guide your learning so you'll feel pride in your developing English skills.
