About Sara

Is your worst nightmare popcorn reading? I've been there. You see a word coming up in a couple sentences that you don't recognize and you just sit quietly and pray that you don't get called upon.
In my low-pressure lessons, I won't put you on the spot quite like that. But, I will challenge you to try to problem-solve on your own. If you get a word wrong, it's no problem! We can talk through it together.
If you think reading is boring, I also understand that. I've had to read a lot of books that I wasn't interested in for class, and it almost ruined all enjoyment of reading for me! That's not the goal in my lessons. In fact, we will find a topic that you enjoy and read about that instead! You may answer some questions about the article or story, or we'll just have a comprehension conversation about the content at the end.
My lessons won't put you down for not knowing how to spell a word or not understanding a passage. We'll work through things together so you can gain confidence in your abilities!

Each lesson will begin with connecting with the student. Teaching is more effective when the student feels a real connection with their instructor. The first free lesson is 30 minutes long. In this lesson, I will learn where the student is at, discover their areas of improvement and their areas of excellence, and design a lesson plan catered toward each student.
In reading lessons, the student guides the topic! We find something that they will actually enjoy learning and reading about, find articles, books, stories, etc., then go through it together!
In spelling lessons, we go back to the basics: phonics. Together, we go through letters, letter combinations, and their sounds. This allows the student to become more confident and accurate in spelling words they may have never even seen before!
Some students may benefit from homework assignments, others may not. I do my best to tailor the lesson to your child's needs.
Small quizzes may be administered as well to determine individual students' areas of improvement.
For 1st-8th grade, my lessons are designed to get students back on track (or excel) in their English classes!

Details

The first 30-minute lesson is free! In this lesson, I will get to know the student, their goals, and gather the information necessary to design a specialized lesson plan.
Individual 1 hr sessions are $20, but you can bundle and save as well! 5 lessons go for $18/hr, and 10 lessons go for just $17.50/hr!
All of my lessons are online, so there will be no travel fees (for you or me)! All you need is a webcam to participate.
