About Lofty
First and foremost, I'm interested in what engages students/what holds their attention and intentions and then I'm interested in showing/sharing what I know. The job of a teacher is not the same as a dictator who spouts rules and procedures and is angered when said rules and procedures are broken. In my writing workshops, I collab alongside my students to execute experimentation alongside interest in craft.

As an educator, I believe strongly in interacting with media and being inquisitive. I teach through conversation and anecdotes while offering easy-to-meet goals and gentle exposure to previously unknown materials, writing prompts, and workshops of interest. The setup of my workshops follows this form - introduction of self and "ice breaker" for students/participants. - "off loading" context/introductions of materials - small demo of workshop - class-wide workshop time - share/reflect on work that is created - closing/outro of workshop I learn alongside my students, and invite them to take risks, to try new things and to always ask questions and investigate what materials they are presented with. As a poet, and as a southerner, I come from a long line of educators in my family, who instilled in me, the desire to craft quality education for my students! I have the most experience teaching young adults, high schoolers, and middle schoolers. I also am available for book clubs, one-off seminars, and workshops!
