About Olivia
I am a student living and working in Leeds who loves the outdoors and is a passionate teacher!
To give you an insight into someone my previous experience, I worked as a teaching assistant in a year 3 class and this job gave me a real insight into teaching. I was constantly on my feet, doing a range of tasks from teaching small groups, reading and helping to settle disputes between the children. The experience I gained during this job really consolidated my love for teaching. I also developed my knowledge and skills in delivering a lesson as I was able to observe classes and, with amazing support from my colleagues, teach lessons myself.
I also supported the SEND children in the class. This developed my patience, as I had to juggle different abilities, and communication as the SEND group needed everything to be clear in order to feel secure in the learning environment.
I have also mentored a young person through the charity Into-University. Through my experiences with this volunteering I developed greater empathy and listening skills, particularly as my mentee was shy and needed to feel safe in order to confide in me. I also developed my planning and organisation as I had to devise sessions to meet the current academic and social needs of my mentee whilst maintaining my university academics.
Overall I think I am a positive, joyful person who is passionate about helping young people and has the skills, knowledge and determination to do so.

I believe in an individualised tutoring method that ensures each child gets exactly what they need from a session - whether it be spelling practise or help wth reading homework.
I understand that reading with children can be highly time consuming for parents, yet reading allowed is vital for children's development beyond reading skills as it strengthens vocabulary, creative thinking and semantic knowledge anomy other things.
I have worked as a teaching assistant previously and have a large back round in tutoring online (throughout the pandemic) and working with primary school aged children. I will be working as a primary school teacher full time in September so have extensive knowledge of the curriculum.
I can teach lessons anywhere from 30 minute to two hours (although I always recommend an hour to keep tiny (yet mighty) minds focused on the tasks).
My lessons are aimed at primary school aged children with a particular focus on Key stage 2 (ages 7-11).
