About Deborah
Hi, I’m Deborah, a Politics student at the University of Warwick and an A* A-Level Sociology graduate. I’m a patient, understanding tutor who genuinely believes that academic success is not about being “naturally smart”, but about having the right support, structure, and strategies. I didn’t do amazingly at GCSEs, and during A-levels I was often behind in class and struggled to keep up at first. That experience is a big part of why I tutor the way I do. I know how overwhelming A-level Sociology can feel, especially when it seems like everyone else understands the content faster. However, through persistence and a clear, exam-focused approach, I went on to achieve the highest mark in my class and an A* overall. Because of this, I understand both sides of the journey — struggling and succeeding — and I know exactly how to help students bridge that gap. As a tutor, I am calm, supportive, and encouraging. I take time to explain concepts clearly, never rush students, and create a space where questions are welcomed. I want my students to feel confident, not intimidated. Outside of academics, I’m passionate about film, music, going to the gym, and environmental issues, which helps me build genuine rapport with students and keep lessons engaging and relatable. I take tutoring seriously and pride myself on being professional, reliable, and well-prepared for every lesson. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but to help them believe in their own ability to succeed at A-levels — even if they feel behind right now.

My lessons are exam-focused and results-driven, built around the exact skills examiners reward at A-level Sociology. I specialise in: 30-mark essay mastery: breaking down how to plan, structure, and write top-band answers under timed conditions Model answer planning: we create and refine essay plans for every major question type, just like the method I used to achieve an A* Active recall & spaced repetition: using flashcards and retrieval practice (inspired by StudySmarter) to ensure content is retained, not just understood Examiner language & evaluation: teaching how to deploy key sociologists, concepts, and evaluation points fluently and efficiently Lessons are highly interactive and tailored to the student’s exam board and weaker areas, with a strong emphasis on confidence, clarity, and consistency. Typical Lesson Length 60-minute lessons (recommended for most students) 90-minute sessions available for intensive essay practice or exam preparation Each lesson typically includes: Quick recall warm-up Focused teaching or essay planning Timed practice or exam question work Clear, actionable targets for the next session Qualifications & Experience A-Level Sociology: A* Achieved through a proven strategy of: Writing 30-mark plans for every possible question Memorising high-impact content Using flashcards and active recall to secure top-band knowledge Currently studying Politics at the University of Warwick, strengthening my analytical and evaluative skills I understand exactly what examiners are looking for and how students can realistically access the top bands. Who the Lessons Are For A-Level Sociology students (Years 12 & 13) Suitable for: Students aiming for A/A* grades Students needing exam confidence and clear revision strategies
