About Shivam
As your teacher, I am excited to guide you on a musical journey where we will explore the world of rhythm through the tabla and many other beat instruments. Here’s what you can expect from my lessons: 1. Building a Strong Rhythmic Foundation We will start by focusing on the basics: understanding taal, counting, timing, and building a solid foundation in rhythm. You will learn how rhythm connects to music on a deeper level, helping you play with precision and confidence. 2. Learning Multiple Beat Instruments While we will focus on tabla, I will also introduce you to other beat instruments such as dholak, mridangam, and cajón. You will learn the unique techniques of each instrument, and I will show you how rhythm connects across different musical traditions. 3. Connecting Rhythms Across Instruments I will teach you how the rhythms you learn on the tabla can be applied to other instruments and musical styles. We’ll explore how tabla rhythms align with drumming patterns from around the world, broadening your musical knowledge. 4. Creativity Through Improvisation You will have the freedom to experiment and create your own rhythms. I will encourage you to blend traditional tabla rhythms with contemporary music, helping you develop your own unique style. 5. Preparing for Performance We will work on performing under pressure, whether for an audience, a class, or with other musicians. You will learn how to stay in rhythm while collaborating with others and performing live, ensuring you feel confident on stage. 6. Growth and Progress My teaching philosophy is based on the idea that discipline, creativity, and adaptability are essential to becoming a great musician. You’ll be encouraged to practice consistently, but also to explore new ideas and push the boundaries of what you can do with rhythm. I look forward to seeing you grow as a musician, and I’m here to support you every step of the way. Let’s make music together!
