About Nick
Hello! I am saxophonist and clarinetist Nick Torretta and I am passionate about sharing my love of the instruments and helping others discover their path to musical excellence. I have been teaching for almost 20 years now, having graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance. I have performed internationally with groups of all genres and have led my own jazz quintet. I now work from a studio at my home writing music and recording as a session musician for projects. Most recently I played saxophone and clarinet on Ubisoft's Star Wars: Outlaws but have also played on a variety of television and other video game scores.

My approach is that passion and inspiration are what lead a student into progressing in their skills on the instrument. My first priority is always to help engender a sense of inspiration and excitement with the instrument, to find what makes them want to progress and to customize a curriculum that best suits that goal-set and journey. Recommended methodology is a combination of theory, scale and technical exercises, classical studies, transcription and finally jazz studies. A well-rounded curriculum gives the instrumentalist the technical and stylistic proficiency they need to excel in any style.
